Welcome to the Katy Independent School District. Living in WoodCreek Reserve means living in the City of Katy, where children attend Katy ISD schools. Katy residents take education seriously and the community and school district work hand-in-hand to provide the best educational opportunities for all KISD children. As a result, Katy ISD campuses have earned wide acclaim, including National Blue Ribbon Schools, Texas performance awards and commendations, and inclusion on lists of the state’s most outstanding schools prepared by both the Texas Business and Education Coalition (TBEC) and Texas Monthly magazine.

Students in Katy ISD consistently outperform students throughout the state on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) and outperform both state and national averages on college entrance exams. In addition, Katy ISD TAKS passing rate is the 3rd highest in the Houston region behind Friendswood and Montgomery ISDs, districts with student populations of 5,865 and 6,094 respectively. Katy’s TAKS passing rate is ranked first among all districts in the region larger than 10,000 students.

Additional facts about academic achievement in Katy ISD: At every grade level in every area tested on the 2007 TAKS test, student performance surpassed statewide levels – in some areas by much as 27 percentage points. On the 2007 test, performance for all students was above 90 percent in writing (97%), social studies (95%), and reading/language arts (95%).* On the 2007 test (all students tested), Katy ISD reached the Exemplary level in three of the five areas, and Recognized in the other two.

Children living in WoodCreek Reserve attend the new on-site WoodCreek Elementary (opened in 2007), WoodCreek Jr. High opening this August and Katy High School, home of the State 5A Football Champs in 1997, 2000, 2003: runner-up, 1999 and 2007.

WoodCreek Reserve will be home to a new Katy ISD school opening this August 2008, WoodCreek Junior High. The 31-acre junior high site is located on Katy-Flewellen.

KATY HIGH SCHOOL
A long and proud tradition of excellence characterizes Katy High School. Generations of Katy residents, including many current faculty members, have graduated from the district’s original high school, which celebrated its 100th birthday during the 1998-99 school year.

Katy High School’s comprehensive curriculum provides outstanding opportunities for students regardless of interest or academic level: advanced placement and pre-advanced placement classes, dual-credit courses, fundamental courses, and a variety of career/technology preparation classes. Katy High School’s strong academic focus is evidenced by increasing success on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills, with scores rising by as much as 20 points from 2007 to 2008.

Part of KHS’s proud tradition is the sense of community created by a high level of student involvement in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities and organizations. Among them are competitions such as Academic Challenge, Academic Decathlon and Academic Octathlon; enrichment activities such as Close Up; clubs in special interest areas like computer science, geography, foreign languages, statistics; service groups like the Good Sportsmanship League, DARE Role Models, Best Buddies, Interact and Peer Mentors; academic-area groups including yearbook, newspaper, art history, photography, cooking, chess and creative writing; career-oriented groups for future farmers, teachers, business persons, health occupations; and National Honor Society.

Katy ISD is a “What Parents Want” award winning school system, as identified by SchoolMatch®. Only sixteen percent of the nation’s 15,571 public school districts (2,529) have been recognized for meeting the needs of families choosing schools. The nation’s largest school selection consulting firm, SchoolMatch® of Columbus, OH, announced the 2008 Seventeenth Annual award in a recent letter to State School Leadership Associations and State Department of Education Superintendents. SchoolMatch, an independent, nationwide service, helps corporate employee families find schools that match the needs of their children. SchoolMatch® also has conducted more than 1000 Educational Effectiveness Audits of school systems throughout the country and assists corporations with site selection studies. Katy ISD was also rated by Expansion Management magazine, a trade publication for corporate relocation professionals, among the top school districts in the U.S. Katy is one of only 10 Texas school districts to earn a “Gold” rating in 2007. In addition, Katy ISD has been named to the list of “100 Best Communities in America for Music Education” each year since 2002.
